We want everyone to feel as prepared as possible for their journey. While the level of formal assistance for hidden disabilities can sometimes be more limited than mobility support, there are still several ways to help make the airport experience a little easier.
Here is how you can prepare for a smooth trip:
Discreetly signal for support: Many airports participate in the Sunflower Lanyard scheme. Wearing one is a simple, discreet way to let airport staff know that you might need a little more time or a bit of extra patience as you move through the terminal. 🌻
Visit the Special Assistance desk: Even if you haven't booked a specific mobility service, it’s a great idea to head to the assistance desk when you arrive. They can give you the best advice on the quietest routes through the airport or let you know about any dedicated quiet zones available.
Check the airline’s support level: Because every airline has its own policies, it’s worth checking their website before you fly. While things like pre-boarding or complimentary seat selection aren't always standard for hidden disabilities, some airlines may offer it if you ask at the gate or reach out before you travel.
Consider Fast Track: If busy queues are a concern, Fast Track security (available at most airports for a small fee) can be a great way to skip the longest lines and keep the start of your journey a bit more low-key. 🚶🚶♀️
Let us know your needs: You can still fill out our Special Assistance form in your Manage My Booking account. While the airline may not have a specific service to add, it helps them have a heads-up on their passenger list. Find out how to do this here.
The most important thing to remember? Most airport teams are trained to support passengers with hidden disabilities, so don't hesitate to speak up if you need a little extra space or time!
